Maria Ernesta Berucci, Passerina del Frusinate

This is a seriously funky wine from Lazio (just outside of Rome) made by young winemaker Maria Ernesta Berucci, This wine tastes a little bit like sour beer or apple cider (without the effervescence). It’s a blend of the local grapes Passerina and Trebbiano Romagnolo. The wine fermented with indigenous yeasts, has a short skin contact (so it can be considered an orange wine) and was bottled unfiltered with no sulphur added. It pairs nicely with dishes featuring mushrooms or Mediterranean herbs.
